Yesterday was “day 5” of the kids’ club, and I brought my kids down with me to attend. I didn’t expect what happened to Vivienne, my 13-year-old daughter!
-
A few hours before heading down, I had a crazy idea… would Vivienne want to lead a “Bible Verse Hangman Puzzle” I asked her. She was a bit nervous about it, but decided to give it a go. She and I worked on it in our garage for about 15 minutes, and with only 15-minutes training, Vivienne did what a lot of adults would have difficulty doing – she got up in front of 50+ children and adults and lead the game. She did a GREAT job! She had a natural way of interacting with everyone, even heckling the adults to participate more!
-
Right before the Club started, we realized that the person who was supposed to teach the kids a song and lead them in singing it didn’t show up. With literally minutes notice, Vivienne said she would do it, and she chose the song “Lord I Lift Your Name on High” and taught the lyrics and melody to the kids and lead them in singing it!!!
-
After the Club is over, we pass out “Lesson” sheets for the kids to fill out. It has questions based on the Bible lesson. But some of the kids are too young to be able to read the questions and write the answers without help. Vivienne noticed that a little girl, Naoshi, needed help. Vivienne sat with Naoshi, read the questions, and helped Naoshi with them.

The Bible lesson had a strong gospel message, so we invite the kids if they have questions, to ask one of the leaders to walk them through a detailed gospel booklet. This is a 26-page booklet that we train people on how to use with a child, but Vivienne just took it upon herself to walk Naoshi through it. My daddy’s heart leapt for joy as I witnessed my daughter patiently and accurately share the message of salvation with someone she doesn’t even know.
Here’s a video of Vivienne teaching the song, Lord I Lift Your Name on High:
Here’s a video of Vivienne leading the “Bible Verse Hangman Game”:
Things to look for in this video…
- 2 minutes and 5 seconds in: Vivienne humorously heckles the adults to participate.
- 5 minutes and 40 seconds in: Aaron makes fun of Vivienne with a homeschool joke. (shame, shame) 😉
- 8 minutes and 30 seconds in: Vivienne gets the crowd to yell louder the winner and the Bible verse!
And here are all the photos. Please click to enlarge.
When we were leaving, Vivienne told me that she thinks that Naoshi’s mother received Jesus! She also asked me when we were going to go back to that neighborhood again.
As a daddy, I can’t think of anything that makes me more thrilled than that my children have a heart for God, a love for our Lord Jesus Christ, and a concern for the lost that leads them to do something about it. Please keep Vivienne in your prayers, as she is still a very young Christian. It’s my prayer that God uses her to do amazing things and bring glory to the name of Jesus Christ!!!
Yay Vivienne! Praise the Lord she is willing to let Him use her!!
Wow! Great job Vivienne!
Hey, Mark and Shelby, how in the world did Vivienne ever get to be 13? (Probably the same way mine got to be 20!)
We love you all and are praying for much good fruit.
Love,
the Hellwigs
Awesome Job, Vivienne! You did amazing. Sometime, let me show you some “moves” that goes with the song you sang. I learned it from other youth groups, and the youth love it. I love the hangman. Great drawing and way to go, again, Vivienne!
Wow,I am so impressed with the self assurance this young lady posseses! She is truly being used by God to reach the lost ! A chip off the block for sure!
