Friday didn’t go anything like I planned. Two of my best friends and mentors are my Pastor, Juan Saa, and my boss with Open Air Campaigners, Aaron Wentz. So Friday was the day the two of them were going to meet, and together, the three of us were going to share Christ. How cool!
I woke up on Friday like a kid on Christmas, so excited to spend the day serving Christ with two of my friends. But then Juan’s phone call came. He had a family medical emergency that morning and had to stay home to take care of that. I completely understood and told him he was doing the right thing, and we prayed for his situation.
“Well, at least I get Aaron” I thought.
I drove to the OAC office, and Aaron and Ray were there. Ray is a man I met on a mission trip to NYC about 5 years ago and have casually kept in contact via email since. He is retired and volunteers somewhat regularly with OAC. Great to see him again!
Then Sue showed up with bad news. One of Aaron’s tires was completely flat! Oy vey! And he needed his van for a kid’s meeting later that day. He called AAA but they were unable to repair it on the spot, so he had to be towed, and that meant no ministry for me with Aaron!
Like I said, not what I was planning.
But God did MORE than I planned!!!
Sue, Ray, and I hit the subway and it was AMAZING!
- Sharing your faith in the subways is AMAZING because you get to reach Muslims, and Hindu’s, and Jewish people, and Atheists, and Agnostics, and everyone.
- Every three minutes a new train comes and you get a completely new set of people to share Christ with! Sue said it’s like a new church service every three minutes. 🙂
- I was able to open air preach about 6 or 7 times, and people were very responsive and many took gospel tracts, and some skipped their train to stay and talk.
- About three or four people came up to me to tell me they know the Lord Jesus and they are praising God for what me and my teammates were doing. I love encouraging Christians!
- In a few hours time, literally HUNDREDS of people heard the gospel message!
And one of the neatest things was that I got to meet Christina, a young woman in her late 20’s. About 6 months ago she heard Aaron preaching in the open air on Winter Street in Boston, right in the downtown. They got into a conversation and she began discipleship with Sue and Aaron, and about 4 months ago she trusted Christ!!! She’s a newborn Christian, but she met up with us in the subway and was out there handing out tracts and witnessing one-on-one! So exciting to see the fruit of the ministry!!!
Even though I am in the “support raising” phase of the ministry, and am spending my time at my secular job and meeting with churches and individuals about joining my prayer and financial giving team, I still appreciate opportunities to share the gospel of Christ with strangers in the open air when I can.
Last Friday was one of those times. An amazing day! Thank you Jesus!!!
Here are some photos. Click to enlarge.
And here’s a youtube video of one of my quick three-minute gospel presentations that Ray was kind enough to videotape.
Please continue to keep those who heard the gospel in prayer, that like Christina, they will be good soil where the seed of the Word grows. Please pray for the Boston OAC team, and please pray that people will commit to giving so that I can preach the gospel in the city full-time.
Thanks and God bless you!
With love in Christ,
Mark
You are a bold man Mark! I’m glad that God is using you in this city! It’s awesome to think that just 17 years ago–wow didn’t realize it was that long ago–God chose you to go with him on this journey. Many blessings to you. Not sure if our church can be of assistance but give me a call and we can talk. I’ll email you my number.
