Dear praying friends,
I love love love love sharing Jesus at Universities. It’s a tremendous mission field, where God sends our way students from all walks of life, and from all over the world!
We had a fruitful Spring, focusing on The University of New Hampshire.
In addition to reaching unsaved Students, University ministry is also a blessing because we run into Christian students, some of whom have never seen effective Open Air Ministry. I hope and pray that God uses us to embolden Christian students to share the gospel with strangers.
Two students that you just HAVE TO hear about are Selena and Abdul. If you read nothing else, read about those two. Seriously encouraging!
Selena’s story is below, and Abdul’s is the first photo in the Photo Roll below that.
Selena is a very sweet Roman Catholic student.
Selena believes in God, Heaven, and Hell. She hopes her good deeds will outweigh her bad deeds.
I walked her through “The Good Person Test” to illustrate that our bad deeds are much worse than we think they are, and we talked about Jesus alone being the only way of salvation, by grace, through faith, apart from works.
This was new to her. I asked Selena if she reads her Bible, but she said she didn’t have one. I asked her if I could give her one, and she really wanted that!
Then I realized I was out of my Bibles that I give away. So I gave her my own personal Bible I use for Street Evangelism.
Selena was so touched and emotional that I gave her my Bible. I wrote a note inside it for her and encouraged her to get to know Jesus.
She thanked me so much. This is what makes reaching out to strangers so totally worth it! Praise God! Please pray for Selena, that she will come to true saving faith and be Born Again.
But it doesn’t end there! Selena came back a couple of days later and spoke with one of our volunteers, and well, here’s a short video explaining what happened (so encouraging!!! – and only 2 minutes and 47 seconds.)
In the photos and descriptions below, I make reference to “The Good Person Test.” This is a tool that I’ve found to be very very effective in getting students to think about eternal things.
Please feel free to click on the graphic below to download a copy of “The Good Person Test.” Please print it out and use it in your own personal evangelism. And if you want it as a Microsoft Word document, so you can edit it and add your own contact information, just let me know and I’ll get it to you.
You can always find the latest version of “The Good Person Test” at: http://luke-15.org/good-person-test.pdf.
I’ll let the following photos explain what has happened on campus recently.
If you're discouraged, PLEASE READ THIS! This is Abdul, a student Chris started a conversation with on campus. Chris handed him a booklet titled "Where will you spend eternity?" Abdul said, "I know where I'm going. Heaven." Chris asked him why, and Abdul said "I know Jesus." It turns out that Abdul became interested in Jesus just 3 months ago, but doesn't know much about Jesus. Chris asked if he has a Bible, and Abdul said, "no." Chris had the honor to give Abdul his very first Bible ever! Abdul hugged him! Then I got into the discussion. I asked Abdul how he came to know the Lord and he said that he came from a Muslim family from Nigeria, and had been fasting and praying but nothing was helping. Then he met Jesus and Jesus forgave him and healed him.... Only three months ago!!! I had a suspicion that Abdul may have had a vision of Jesus, as I've heard testimonies of that happening with Muslims. I was thinking of a discrete way of asking, but Chris just went for it! He said, "Abdul, did Jesus appear to you?" Abdul got a shocked, amazed, and innocent smile on his face (kind of a "How did you know that?" expression), but wouldn't answer the question. I explained that it was okay, and the reason we asked is because Jesus is appearing to many Muslims around the world. Abdul agreed that he had seen a vision and now is no longer a Muslim. He said emphatically, "Jesus only." We gave Abdul our contact information and encouraged him to keep in touch. Please pray for Abdul, that God would speak clearly to him through His Word and by His Holy Spirit and draw him closer and closer to Jesus! And that we'd hear from him and meet with him again. And let's praise God for reaching out to people from "all tribes and peoples and languages" (Revelation 7:9).
Chris ROCKIN' a Star Wars Millennium Falcon T-shirt. Chris NEVER wears shirts like this, so I HAD TO GET photographic evidence!!!
This is Michael. He's only in 9th Grade. Despite being only 14-years-old, Michael is reasoning with a Hindu College Student who is at least 4 years older than him. Michael has a powerful Savior! He and some of his classmates, along with their teacher, joined me on campus to evangelize. Jesus can use anybody to reach the Lost with the gospel! If you're young, inexperienced, scared, it doesn't matter, as long as you love Jesus and love the Lost. And there's NOTHING better than being used by our Great King! Hallelujah!
This is Owen. He was very interested to listen to Ted's salvation testimony. He also took a gospel booklet about a man who got saved out of the dangerous MS-13 gang.
I love dogs! And so do the people who walk by with them. Just about every time a student walks by with a dog, when I show interest in the pup, the owner will stay and talk about Jesus. This was the case here.
This is Parker, and he's a Moral Relativist. He ultimately couldn't call any acts absolutely wrong. Amazing that people think this way, but they sadly do. He and Chris spoke for about an hour! As it happened, our friend, Mallory, came by and she also reasoned with Parker. Please pray that the Holy Spirit would break through the strongholds in the minds and souls of students like Parker.
This is Songlah, a Muslim from Senegal. She had LOTS of questions for Eric. And they rightly determined that they hold LOTS of differences on who Jesus is. I find this refreshing, because some Muslims attempt to use the tactic that "Christians and Muslims essentially believe the same thing" which is not at all accurate. Please pray for Songlah. Thanks!
This is Christina. She was a little timid, but took "The Good Person Test" with Chris. Christina said she had never thought much about eternal things, but after taking the test, she said she's concerned. Christ said, "That's your conscience speaking to you." Christina took an evangelistic DVD.
This is Pat, and he rolled by and stopped to talk with Chris. Pat had just recently watched a video about the Bible by Jordan Peterson, and that got Pat thinking. Peterson isn't a Christian, but it's cool know God can use YouTube videos by the unsaved to get them thinking! Pat said that he used to be a nihilist with a very secular mindset, but has had a pretty profound change of heart as of late. He expressed great insight into how his generation feels empty and is tired of the lies they are being fed in the public education system. He had so many deep and profound questions and Chris just loved answering them from God's Word. They spoke for over 45 minutes! Pat said he liked to read, so Chris have him an evangelistic book, and pointed him to a great Church in his town.
Didn't I mention that I LOVE dogs? I met this adorable pup, and her owner was kind enough to take a gospel booklet from me. A double-win!
This is Michael and Julian. They're both Philosophy Majors. They said they'd find out if there's a Heaven when they get there. Chris took them through "The Good Person Test" and that yielded good fruit. They each took an Evangelistic DVD.
This is Eli. Eli and Ted spoke for 30 minutes. Ted shared his testimony and explained what Biblical Christianity is. He encouraged Eli to read God's word for himself.
It's fun to be at the same place regularly, because yet again, we run into the same students. This is Pat (who was on the bicycle above). He said he still wasn't sure what he believed, but he said he was really thinking about the conversation they had last time.
This is Grace. I'll let Chris describe this terrific encounter... "She was wearing a sweatshirt that says "OBEY." So I asked her what it meant. Who was I supposed to obey? This led into a great conversation about the Highest moral authority we should obey, and how all of us have chosen not to. God would be just in punishing us for our disobedience, but offers grace, mercy and forgiveness at the cross. All we need to do is repent of our disobedience and trust in Jesus to save us." It was a cold rainy day but Good still provided outstanding evangelism!
This is Julia, a sweet Roman Catholic student who doesn't understand the true gospel. Julia has spoken with Chris before. Since Julia called herself Pro-Life, Chris gave her a DVD called "180" because it has a strong Pro-Life message, but also a very strong GOSPEL message.
This is Chris, and he reminded the other Chris of what he was like before he met Jesus. The unsaved Chris (on the right-hand side) was very aware of the ability to do evil within himself. He was very philosophical. The saved Chris (left-hand side) shared his salvation testimony. And he gave him an evangelistic DVD.
Eric made use of a fun brain-teaser to get into lots of conversations with students! You can see the brain-teaser in his left hand.
This is Anna, and she has no religious background at all. Still, Anna said that "there must be a god." Thankfully she and Eric had a great conversation, and Anna left with a gospel booklet!
When I went into the Library (yes, to use the bathroom), I found one of our tracts pinned to the bulletin board where Students post items of interest. It was even posted with the "You Must Be Born Again" side facing forward! I wonder if a Christian student did that? Cool!
This is Arden, a friendly Roman Catholic student who came right up to Ted and said, "I'm curious what Church you're from and what you believe." Ted said that we all attend different local Churches, but we all believe in and follow the Bible. Arden and Ted spoke for a good long while and even sat down together to talk longer. Ted shared his salvation testimony and gave Arden her very own New Testament. One of the great things about going to the same spot over and over is that students recognize us and will approach us to ask questions. Please pray that Arden will trust Jesus alone by faith through grace and not of works.
This is Ben. He grew up attending a Christian Church, but recently has been attending a Catholic Church. Ben says he doesn't believe the doctrines of Roman Catholicism, but he likes the history. Chris pointed out that Christian History pre-dates Catholicism. And Chris made sure Ben understood the gospel.
In addition to the people in the photos, there were a couple other notable interactions, but we didn’t get photos.:
- Amber: Amber is a Christian. I know her Church and we have mutual friends there. She asked me questions about if “stranger evangelism” was effective. As she and I talked, she saw people taking gospel booklets and talking to us. She was encouraged and hopefully got a new perspective on stranger evangelism.
- Julianna: It’s funny how a conversation can start. I started up a conversation with Julianna because I complimented her “sunny” sweatshirt. It really was quite cheery, so I told her I liked it. She said it was strange, but she got a lot of compliments on her sweatshirt that day. But I’m not interested in talking about fashion. Thankfully I was able to swing the conversation over to eternal spiritual matters. Julianna listened to me share my salvation testimony with her. She also took a gospel booklet Honestly, she was so sweet and happy. I told her about my daughter, Juliana, and how they have the same name, even though they spell it differently. Nice young lady.
Please pray for us and those we meet!
As you can see, God uses University Ministry to reach a lot of people who might not otherwise hear the truth about Jesus. I’m sad that it’s over for the summer. But I look forward, Lord willing, to ministering at the Universities again in the Fall!!!
We love you and thank Jesus for you!
Thank you so much for your prayers, financial support, and notes of encouragement, without which we would not be able to reach the Lost for Jesus Christ!
Please contact us anytime and let us know how we can pray for you!
And please feel free to forward this to anyone you think would be blessed by it!
For Christ and His gospel,
Mark, Shelby, Vivienne, Juliana, Caleb, and Gabriella
