Have you heard this one before?
Why are Christians so concerned about Gay Marriage anyway?
Shouldn’t Christians first be out fighting against:
- Heterosexual Divorce
- Child Abuse
- Drug Overdoses
- Homelessness
- Homicides
- Wars that Kill Innocents
- Hunger
- Disease
- Pornography
- The Obesity Epidemic
- and so much more… ????
The point of this is to suggest that Christians should solve all those problems first before being vocal against Gay Marriage.
This is a common statement meant to stump those of us who hold to God’s view on sexuality.
Here’s what you do: lovingly point out that we do stand against Heterosexual Divorce, Child Abuse, Drug Overdoses, Homelessness, and the rest.
And lovingly point out that it is Christian Churches and organizations that do the most to combat these societal ills.
The glaring difference that separates Gay Marriage from other sins is that everyone agrees that Divorce, Child Abuse, Drugs, etc. are harmful, and nobody is suggesting to our children to try them out.
There isn’t an Elementary School curriculum that suggests to our children to give drug abuse a try. There are no books in the kid’s section of the library painting rosy pictures of how great a life of child abuse is. There are no diversity seminars telling our kids that they might like homelessness.
Yet when it comes to Gay Marriage and Transgenderism:
- our kids are being indoctrinated to accept these as normal
- our kids are taught to never question the validity of them
- under the false flag of being “open-minded,” our children are even being encouraged to try Homosexuality and Transgenderism out for themselves.
It is not unloving to declare that we do not want our children to be guinea pigs in a new social experiment teaching them that unnatural lifestyles are perfectly fine.
Why are Christians so concerned about Gay Marriage anyway? Because our Society is doing something new… it is insisting that Homosexuality and Transgenderism is normal, and labeling any diverse opinions as hate speech.
To my knowledge, no one is doing that with other sins. Nobody is insisting that we consider rape okay, or try out burglarizing for ourselves. Nobody is making a protected status out of those who fail to provide for their families, or who beat people up.
And that’s why Homosexual Marriage is different.
But then lovingly suggest that all sin is sin, and ask them if they have ever broken any of God’s laws? Have they told a lie, or stolen something, or taken God’s name in vain? You’ll be in a gospel-centered conversation in no time!
And that’s when the conversation becomes a “win,” when the discussion transitions off the hot political topic of the day and transitions to a gospel-centered talk.
Stand up for Jesus and He’ll stand up for you!!!
