Warm Up Hearing About What Jesus Did at the Beach!

Posted on Nov 07 , 2017 in Beach & Blog & Church_Teams & Street_Evangelism

Dear praying friends,

I’ve got GREAT news, God is still in the business of saving the Lost, and I’m so so glad!!!

I love love love LOVE Evening Beach Evangelism!

Please warm yourself up with this update on the outstanding things God did!

Lots and lots of people from around the world and all different ages gathered around and listened to the gospel message, many staying around afterwards for one-on-one discussions! We gave out thousands of gospel tracts! Very exciting!!!

Also, Beach Evangelism is a great place to train and build up the Church! We had Christians from a number of different local churches come out this summer to participate and hone their evangelism skills! (And find out that it’s not so terrifying after all.)

I’ll let the photos tell much of the story…

In addition to the people in the photos, some other people who stood out are:

  • Brad and Ian: Brad and Ian are a couple of young men who thought they were good enough to go to Heaven. I took through “The Good Person Test.” After a little bit into it they said, “There’s nobody good enough. We’re all sinners.” Now that’s a great place to start the gospel!

  • John and Stephanie: John and Stephanie wanted me to prove to them that God exists. Of course, I believe from Romans 1 that everyone already believes, but suppresses that truth. So I try to demonstrate to them what they already know. And God provided professionally sculpted sandcastles for the job! (Please see the photo of the sandcastles above.) I asked them if they could believe that those sandcastles were formed by a sandstorm, and they said, “No.” And then I pointed out some of the complex and amazing ways we’re made, and said, “compared to you, those sandcastles are literally a pile of dirt. Of course you have a Maker.” And one of them, I forget which one, said, “It’s easy to believe when you say it like that.” You know, it IS easy to believe. The hard part is to follow Jesus because it goes against our pride. And we talked about that.

  • Dillon and Nate: It was pretty obvious that Dillon and Nate were “stoned.” But they seemed very open to knowing the truth, despite the chemicals in their bloodstream.

  • Amelia and Hailey: Amelia didn’t like my message on cancer (see YouTube video below). She was very polite, and thought it was mean to talk about sin or Cancer. It was upsetting to her. I apologized for upsetting her, and assured her that wasn’t my intention. But if someone were dying of Cancer, the most loving thing you could do is to warn them so they’ll seek a cure.

  • Jaylen: When we go through our “riddles” messages, usually it takes a few minutes for someone in the crowd to get the right answers. Not with Jaylen! Jaylen is a 10-year-old little genius who got all the riddles nearly immediately before any of the adults could get them. Actually,
    a sweet kid.

  • Chris and Briana: Some people really make an impression on you, but you don’t realize it right away. Chris was a man in his 40s who didn’t seem all that different than most people I talk to. But he was saying that he doesn’t need God and God isn’t necessary for him. And I said that it’s very serious to reject God. And that’s when Chris began to cry. He told me all about himself, and how he can’t see his 14-year-old daughter, Briana. He loves her, but is separated from her. He told me so much. And he was much more open once he began to tear up.

  • Kisstrell: Kisstrell is a free-spirited young lady who said she didn’t believe in anything. But she wasn’t close-minded. She heard me out and took more information from me to read later.

  • Ray and Landon: Ray and Landon are two teenagers who came to chat. They said, “We have a lot to think about.” Indeed they do!

If you’d like to see for yourself what an open air message at the beach looks like, here’s a video of one for you to watch:

We love you and thank Jesus for you!

Thank you so much for your prayers, financial support, and notes of encouragement, without which we would not be able to reach the Lost for Jesus Christ!

Please contact us anytime and let us know how we can pray for you!

And please feel free to forward this to anyone you think would be blessed by it!

For Christ and His gospel,

Mark, Shelby, Vivienne, Juliana, Caleb, and Gabriella

P.S. If you want to know what’s going on for beach ministry NEXT summer, please let me know and I’ll email you when I begin planning that out next year. Summer 2018 will be here faster than you think! You can also keep an eye out for http://beach.Luke-15.org, as I’ll post news there.

December Newsletter: Jesus Did SOOO Much This Summer

Posted on Dec 17 , 2016 in Beach & Blog & Camp & Church_Teams & Colleges & Kids_Ministry & Newsletters & Object_Lessons & Sermons & Street_Evangelism & Subways & Training

Dear friends,

Recently I mailed off our latest paper newsletter.

God has been doing AMAZING things, and it’s a privilege to share some of it with you. I pray that this newsletter is a blessing to you!

God gave us Divine Appointments with Muslims, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Atheists, Agnostics, and just about anyone you can imagine.

We’ve also been able to go into Local Churches and build up, train, and encourage Christians to share their faith wherever they are!

And we had lots of Mission Trip Groups come to us this summer to train, be equipped, and go back home to be more effective Ambassadors for Jesus where they live!

I pray that you’ll be as encouraged as I am!!!

This newsletter has mostly photos in it, so it doesn’t take too long to read.

If you want to read it right away, or if you don’t get a paper one, please feel free to read an electronic version by clicking on the graphic below…

Beach Evangelism Is Way Better than Politics!!!

Posted on Oct 27 , 2016 in Beach & Blog & Street_Evangelism

Dear praying friends,

My website has been “on the fritz” for the past few months, but thankfully it’s back up and running. So I’m going to try to post updates from the outstanding summer of ministry God gave us.

And since myself and just about everyone I know is REALLY SICK OF POLITICAL DEBATES, I thought it would be MUCH MORE EDIFYING to see how God used ordinary Christians to seek and save the Lost.

Despite all the discouraging stories in the news, God is still in the business of saving the Lost, and I’m so so glad!!!

I’ll let the photos tell much of the story…

In addition to the people in the photos, some other people who stood out are:

  • Kyle: Please pray for Kyle, a 17-year-old young man who told me that it makes sense to him that he’s sinned against God. I asked him when he’s going to repent and trust Jesus, and he said, “I need to do that right away.” Please pray that his faith is genuine, and they he will “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18).

  • Linda: Linda approached me and Eric and told us that she had listened to us the week before, and drove all the way from Western Massachusetts to hear us again and talk to us. Wow! She shared with us that she is angry with God because her daughter (in her 20’s) had passed away. It actually sounds like her daughter was saved by the way Linda described her daughter’s faith and what she said about God! But it didn’t appear that Linda was saved. Eric and I were able to explain the gospel message to her and she allowed us to pray with her. By the end of the conversation, Linda said she wanted to attend a church that teaches the Bible accurately! Praise God! I wasn’t aware of any near her town, so I asked around, and found a great Church that came highly recommended. Linda and I communicated for weeks via text messages, and she shared photos of her deceased daughter, as well as her other children and grandchildren. She told me that she has asked God to forgive her heart and change her heart.

  • Matthew and Leslie: It’s always tremendous to be able to encourage other Christians, and fun when we run into the same ones more than once. I recognized Matthew and Leslie from last summer (but I did forget their names. Whoops.) Matthew used to be a Jehovah’s Witness. We had a superb conversation building one another up last summer, and he was so happy to see us on the beach again this summer. He came right over for a hug and encouraging words! Praise God!

  • Eli: Eli is a thoughtful Jewish 18-year-old. We had a great talk about why we all need a blood sacrifice, and only Jesus qualifies. He took a copy of my testimony, entitled, A Jew and His God.

  • Jake: Jake is a high-schooler who came right up to me after my message and asked me if he could have a Bible. He told me he had been questioning recently. I gladly gave him a Bible and an evangelistic DVD!

  • Steve: God sent the perfect person to talk with Steve, a paralyzed Christian man in a wheelchair. David, one of our volunteers, is one of the gentlest, sweetest men you’ll ever meet. He has strong gifts in encouragement, and he was able to give encouragement to Steve. Praise God!

  • Alex and Emma: Sometimes people come and ask apologetic questions that are one their mind. It’s funny that they trust a stranger with these questions, but they do! This was the case with Alex and Emma, two teenagers who wanted to know if the Bible really teaches that Jesus was perfect. So we opened the Scriptures with them and showed them. We exhorted them to trust Christ, the Perfect One, and gave them gospel literature.

  • Umburto: Umburto is a Portuguese man who spoke with us, but was hung up on whether miracles can really happen. We reasoned with him that if God can create everything out of nothing, then it’s not too hard for God to perform a miracle. Of course it’s always a miracle when the Holy Spirit makes someone alive in Christ, and that’s what we want for Umburto.

We love you and thank Jesus for you!

Beach Evangelism Was SOOOOO Terrific!!!

Posted on Sep 24 , 2015 in Beach & Blog & Church_Teams & Street_Evangelism

Dear praying friends,

I love love love LOVE Evening Beach Evangelism!

We started our Beach Evangelism a few weeks early this summer, so it was great to have an “extended” season of ministry at the beach.

Please warm yourself up with this update on the outstanding things God did!

As you can see in the following photo, lots and lots of people from around the world and all different ages gather around and listen to the gospel message, many staying around afterwards for one-on-one discussions!

Also, Beach Evangelism is a great place to train and build up the Church! We had teams from a number of different local churches come out this summer to participate and hone their evangelism skills!

I thank God for my friend, Chris McKinley. You’ll see him in a number of the photos. I had to be out of State for a few weeks while I was the Youth Pastor at a Camp in Maine, and Chris did an AMAZING job taking my place and running the outreach while I was gone. Great teamwork!

I hope the following photos are an encouragement to you!

So many people stop to listen. Some walk away. Many stay. Many take literature and have one-on-one discussions afterward!

It seems like the darker it gets, the more people show up!

Here's a new one: I promise that my team and I are not those nasty obnoxious preachers. We speak respectfully. But sometimes we get opposition. As Chris was sharing Jesus, this man got right up and started yelling at the crowd against us. He did it again when I was preaching. He called the Police on us, but the Police took our side. I don't know this man's name, but I pray that God will heal his bitterness. You never know what's gonna happen on the streets.

The heckler called the Police, but they sided with us and even told him to leave us alone. It's still legal to engage in free expression of ideas in the public square.

The man who yelled at us the week before came back and yelled at us WITH A BULLHORN this time! He interrupted my preaching and LOUDLY through his bullhorn told everyone that I was "making them" listen and preventing them from seeing the professional sand castles. Incredibly, the crowd came to my defence! Unsaved people I don't even know yelled at the angry bullhorn guy, telling him they "want to hear" what I have to say, that they're there on their own free will, and that everyone can see the sand castles just fine. Praise God! God raised up an army to make the bullhorn guy leave. And then a number of people came up to me afterwards asking how I could be so calm towards him. I have credit to God, saying that I have the Holy Spirit in me and He gives me compassion for that man. Perhaps he'd been hurt in the name of religion? What a testimony! Thank You Jesus!

The "Solve this Riddle" message is useful because even after it's preached, it can be left up and people will come over to ask what it's about. It's a great catalyst to walk them through a gospel conversation. Robert is able to share Christ with more than a half-dozen people at once.

Another example of walking a man through "The Riddle" message. Chris' daughter, Chloe, is looking on and learning at a young age that it is totally okay to talk to people about Jesus. #ParentingWin

The first few weeks we were there, there was a professional sand castle display. Could any of these have formed by time and chance? Of course not! And we didn't form that way either. We were made by God Almighty!

I got to share Jesus with two Muslims who speak French, are from Morocco, live in Canada, but are vacationing at the beach in New England. Now that's a Divine Appointment! They didn't give me their names because they said they're too hard to pronounce in English. I spoke with them about their need for a blood sacrifice. They told me that Muhammad is all they need. I pointed out that Muhammad had a sin problem. He allowed married women to be raped by his army. These two protested and said Muhammad would NEVER have allowed that! I had them open their Koran to Surah 4:24. This was THEIR Koran. After seeing that Muhammad did allow the rape of married women, they said their own Koran must be a bad translation. I urged them to look it up in Arabic. I pleaded with them to seek the Jesus of the Bible. They left with literature in French and English and hopefully a lot to consider. Please pray that God grants them repentance to Eternal Life in Christ! It's amazing who you meet at the beach!

As if it's not exciting enough that lots of people stopped to listen to the gospel message, many more taking booklets, and fruitful 1-on-1 discussions... this night a 5-year-old girl named Zoey told me that she thought that I was a good artist (she was soooo sweet!) God is good! :)

Dear friends,

Last week I mailed off our latest paper newsletter.

God has been doing AMAZING things, and it’s a privilege to share some of it with you. I pray that this newsletter is a blessing to you!

This newsletter has mostly photos in it, so it doesn’t take too long to read.

If you want to read it right away, or if you don’t get a paper one, please feel free to read an electronic version by clicking on the graphic below…

I also included a flyer for a device that automatically blocks pornography from every device in your home. No software needs to be installed on any of your devices. This is a win-win for everyone because families are protected from destructive pornography, and this helps fund the vital front-line evangelism work we do.

Please check out this flyer at: http://Luke-15.org/2014-11-OMTS.pdf

If you don’t usually receive the paper copy of the newsletter, but would like to, please contact us and let us know your address and we’ll gladly add you to our mailing list! 🙂

Warm Up With an Exciting Beach Update!

Posted on Oct 06 , 2014 in Beach & Blog

Dear praying friends,

I love love love LOVE Evening Beach Evangelism!

I’ve been sooo busy with ministry, that I haven’t had time to send this update on how our Beach Evangelism “season” ended.

It’s October now – a bit chilly in New England.

So please warm yourself up with this update on the outstanding things God did!

If you’d like to see my previous update from July on how the beginning of the Beach “season” went, that’s at: http://Luke-15.org/2014/07/this-is-why-i-love-love-love-evening-beach-evangelism/.

As you can see in the following photo, lots and lots of people from around the world and all different ages gather around and listen to the gospel message, many staying around afterwards for one-on-one discussions!

Beach Evangelism is a great place to train and build up the Church!

We had a number of Church Teams come out, as well as individuals who wanted to see first-hand what it can look like to reach out to strangers with the gospel of Jesus. That was fantastic!

Also, this summer I had to be out of town a few times for ministry out of State. So my friend Chris did an AMAZING job taking my place and running the outreach while I was gone. I’m so thankful that God could use those times to work in Chris’ life and help him grow in his skills.

Please pray for JT, a young man we met at the beach. We witnessed to him last summer, and he remembered us and I remembered him.

JT comes from an unchurched home, but he appears to be VERY OPEN to the gospel message! He hanged around our team all night. He even helped us give out gospel tracts!

I got JT’s email and suggested a good local church near him and he attended and said he liked it and wanted to keep going.

I love being able to connect people with local churches! What an honor!

I hope the following photos are an encouragement to you!

God uses open-air preaching to setup many many one-on-one witnessing conversations. After a message like this one, many people will stay around to talk about what I shared.

He stayed with us the whole night talking and asking questions and even gave out gospel tracts with us. I've been in touch with JT via email and he began attending a church I recommended to him. Please keep JT in your prayers!

This is Why I Love Love LOVE Evening Beach Evangelism!!!

Posted on Jul 31 , 2014 in Beach & Blog

Dear praying friends,

I love love love LOVE Evening Beach Evangelism!

I look forward to this all year.

Sadly, in New England, there’s a short season of when we can effectively reach people at the beach. 🙁

So I treasure every moment!

As you can see in the following photo, lots and lots of people gather around and listen to the gospel message, many staying around afterwards for one-on-one discussions!

Here’s a few reasons why Beach Evangelism is so great:

  • Tons of people (some from quite far away) come to the beach every day.

  • The town of Hampton, NH, puts on a free concert and free fireworks every Wednesday night, and that attracts even MORE people!

  • Unlike in the city, people aren’t in a hurry. They’re not rushed and distracted. We get into lots more fruitful one-on-one witnessing conversations!

  • The beach is a GREAT PLACE to bring Christians who want to learn to share their faith, but are afraid! At the beach they can watch, pray, and give it a try handing out a gospel tract, or even engaging a stranger in a conversation.

  • We run into a lot of Christians who tell us that God has used us to encourage them in their walk with Christ and to be more bold in their witness to the lost.

  • In the span of just a few hours, we can hand out hundreds and hundreds of gospel tracts, have dozens of conversations, and have 100+ people listen to the gospel proclaimed in the open air!

The following is from an email I got from my Pastor regarding a man named Joe who he met while being part of our team at the beach:

One of the young men we were able to witness on the Wednesday we went to Hampton Beach lived in [our town] and goes to [the local high school]. Well he came to church yesterday, showed up at 8 am and left at 1 pm. God is doing something in his heart. His name is Joe! Pray for Joe to become a strong witness for Christ!

Another exciting opportunity from the beach is a man named Jimmy. He gave me his email address and he and I have been emailing back and forth. He doesn’t see himself as a sinner, and thinks Jesus doesn’t require him to repent and trust in Jesus. Please pray for my continued emails with Jimmy.

We still have much of the summer left to go to Hampton Beach a number of times, so please keep our future outreaches in your prayers! 🙂

I hope the following photos are an encouragement to you!

As it gets darker, more and more people gather around to listen. In this message, I'm using the story of "The Titanic" as an object lesson for the gospel.

It was rainy and cold this night, but God provided great ministry nonetheless. A crowd gathers to listen to Chris share a message he just learned (good for him!). Many good one-on-one discussions throughout the night. My Pastor was there and got to share Christ with a man who lives on the same street as him! Talk about a Divine appointment!!!

Open-air messages are a GREAT way to start a one-on-one (or one-on-three) gospel conversation. You just look at the person next to you and say, "So, what do you think of what that man was saying?"

Evening Beach Evangelism Followup

Dear friends,

Earlier in the summer I wrote to you about how fantastic Evening Beach Evangelism is.

You can see that post by clicking here.

Evening Beach Evangelism is over until next year, but God did amazing things at the beach this summer! I’d like to highlight a few so we can all praise Him and pray for the seeds planted.

We all want to see unreached people hear the message of Jesus, but one thing that excites me A LOT is for Christians to be built-up, equipped, and encouraged to share their faith! This happened quite a bit this summer at the beach. I was blessed to have a number of regular volunteers come out to help in all areas, from setting up and breaking down the equipment, to passing out tracts, sharing the gospel with people who pass by, and even preach from the sketch board!

One volunteer, Joe, is a Bible Study Leader at a local church, and he brought out a team just about every week! So lots of Christians got a chance to be part of evangelism-in-action and be used by God!!! 🙂

Please pray that all the Christian who came out will be emboldened to share Christ all the time in their daily lives because of their experiences at the beach.

Some notable people God sent our way that I’d like prayer for are:

  • Stephanie: Stephanie is a young woman in her early 20’s. I had a long chat with Stephanie after a message, and she appeared receptive and interested in the gospel message. Stephanie told me that she didn’t have a Bible, but would like one. So I gave her one and wrote a note of encouragement to her in the inside cover. She appreciated the gift. Please pray that she reads it and receives Jesus as Savior!

  • Dan: Dan is friends with Stephanie (above), and also is in his early 20’s. He was turned off by church because he said his mother was, quoting him, “kicked out” of church. I’m sure there’s more to the story, but we showed compassion. It turns out his mother left his father and she married a woman. I’m sure having a Lesbian mother would be a stumbling block, but not one that Jesus can’t reach through. Please pray for this young man, and his family.

  • A Ukrainian Family: One of the coolest things that I saw this summer at the beach was when I heard a woman translating what I was saying into a foreign language. Afterwards, I approached her. She was with her husband and daughter. I asked her what language she was speaking, and she said “Russian.” She told me that they are from the Ukraine. She’s not even a Christian and God used her and our team to reach a family from the Ukraine in New England! How cool is that???!!! (There is a photo of this family below.)

  • JT: JT is a young man in his late teens. He listened to the open-air preaching and stuck around afterwards nearly the whole night! I spoke with him after the message and he said he was very concerned about his eternal destiny. He said he’s absolutely consider what I shared very seriously. And here’s where it gets funny. After I was done talking with JT, my team member, Chris, spoke with him too. JT wanted to know how to grow as a Christian so Chris told him to read the Bible, of course, but also told him to tell others about Jesus. Chris handed JT some gospel tracts and right there JT started giving them out to people! JT came back to ask for more!!! (There is a photo of me sharing Christ with JT below.)

  • Leonardo (and his friends): Leonardo came right up and started talking with us. I suspected he was a Jehovah’s Witness because he was asking what God’s name is. Sure enough, he and his friends are Jehovah’s Witnesses. I try to stick to the important subjects of “Who is Jesus?” and “What is the Gospel Message?” with Jehovah’s Witnesses, because often they want to go down multiple rabbit trails over topics that don’t matter in eternity. Chris and I chatted with Leonardo for about 20 minutes and we covered the origin of the name “Jehovah” (how it didn’t even exist until over a thousand years after Jesus and doesn’t show up in the original language of either the New or Old Testament.) We saw that the “gospel” he preaches is different than the Biblical one. And we showed him from the Scriptures that Jesus is God. But what often happens with people in cults is that they stay loyal to their cult even over the Bible. Leonardo wouldn’t even give me his email address or phone number, so I can’t contact him. But God can! Please pray that the Word of God planted in Leonardo will be used by God to rescue him and save him!

Here are some photos from recent weeks at the beach…

Beach Evangelism at Night is Fantastic!!!

I just love beach evangelism at night! It’s a SUPERB way to reach lots and lots of people with the gospel in a friendly, approachable way.

It’s also great for Christians who want to learn to share their faith, but are a bit intimidated. We tend to get a friendly crowd at the beach.

One of my favorite spots is Hampton Beach, on the Seacoast of New Hampshire.

I like to joke that the Town of Hampton wants people to hear the gospel soooo bad that they put on an expensive fireworks show every Wednesday evening in the summer to attract a crowd so that Open Air Campaigners can share Christ with people! 🙂

Every Wednesday is fireworks at 9:30pm, and lots of people start gathering around 7pm with not much to do and they’re often very willing to listen to open-air preaching and chat afterwards! In just a few hours we can reach hundreds of people for Jesus Christ!

God provides sooo many “divine appointments.”

Please pray for Joanne, a woman in her 20’s I met recently. She listened to a few open-air messages. I spoke with her and she told me that she had come to the Lord through Teen Challenge, but, in her own words, “have been tempted back into the world.” She admitted to not living for Jesus and told me that she really wants to. She really listened to the preaching intently and our conversation was very encouraging. Please keep Joanne in your prayers! It’s worth going to the beach to evangelize just to reach someone like Joanne!

Please pray for the Beach Evangelism this summer!

Here are some photos from Hampton Beach recently…
